Driving School Frequently Asked Questions
When is my student eligible to take driver's education?
Students must be 14 1/2 years old by the date class starts. The state of North Carolina will not allow any exceptions. We do suggest waiting until 3 – 4 months prior to your student’s 15th birthday to take a driver’s education class.
Is driving included in the cost of the class?
Yes. The 6 hours of behind-the-wheel driving is included in the cost of all of our classes. Driving is scheduled after your student passes the classroom portion and gets their eyes examined..
Do you accept payments for class tuition?
Yes we do accept payments as long as the balance is paid before class starts.
My student has taken the 30 hours of classroom at another school. Can you help with driving?
Yes. We charge $360 for 6 hours of behind-the-wheel driving. We’ll neeed to get some paperwork from the previous school. Call us at (704) 537-7774 to discuss the papwerwork and scheduling.
How soon will my student drive once the classroom part is over?
The driving schedule is determined by the student’s age. Older students are given scheduling priority. A 14 1/2 year old who is 6 months from being eligible to test for their permit does not need to drive before a student who is already 15 or older. Younger students typically drive 2 – 3 weeks prior to their 15th birthday. This way, what they learn behind the wheel is still fresh on their mind when they get their permit.
How do we schedule driving?
The online instructor is not involved with the driving schedule. They will provide instructions on how to schedule driving on the last day of class prior to the final exam. Instructions will also be emailed to the parent and student email addresses provided on the registration form after class is over. This is done to prevent parents from trying to schedule driving before their student has passed the final exam.
What documents do parents need for their students to drive with an instructor?
You’ll need to fill out a restricted instruction permit. We will provide this to you after class is over. Fill out the top section only and bring it to the office when you have your student’s eyes checked. Information about the eye check clinics will be provided in the Driving School Next Steps document provided after your student passes the online class final exam.
Where can I see the entire list of licensing requirements for North Carolina?
You can view the graduated licensing program requirements on the North Carolina DMV website (page will open in a new window).
